Cheers! Extra Licensing Hours for Royal Wedding
Publicans, bar owners and everyone in the hospitality industry are looking forward to a bumper weekend around the Royal Wedding on Saturday 19th May.
Apart from being able to welcome customers to watch the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the trappings of the Royal Wedding, there is the FA Cup final (will Prince William be there?) and the promise of excellent weather.
But the icing on the wedding cake for those in the Licensed Trade is that licensing hours have been extended on the nights of Friday 18th and Saturday 19th May until 1 am the next morning. So plenty of time to celebrate!
Tourism operators are expecting a third more visitors to the country over the weekend and this combined with the extra hours is leading predictions of a £10m boost in trade.
The even better news for licensees is that they do not need to incur the cost of submitting Temporary Event Notices (TENs) for the extended hours – they extensions apply automatically.
Ministers are encouraging people to celebrate with family and neighbours, organise street parties and then go to their local.
